EIP students and their parents are both required to attend Strengthening the Family sessions during their 8th grade year. Due to the development of virtual learning and COVID-19 protocols, a modality for these sessions have not yet been decided for the 2021-2022 school year. More information will be released during the Fall parent meetings. Sessions will be provided in English and Spanish. Information on your assigned sessions will be mailed home and emailed closer to the date. Contact us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend your session to be rescheduled for a make-up. Students who do not complete STF as an 8th grader will be removed from EIP.
Session schedule for the 2021-2022 school year will be released in October.
Strengthening the Family Facilitators
The facilitators are experienced professionals in the fields of education, social work, and engineering. They have provided STF workshops for over 10 years. Combined, they have meaningfully impacted over 1000 families of the Early Identification Program.
Strengthening the Family for Students
The Strengthening the Family program component explores issues that adolescents face, such as self-advocacy, effective communication, understanding family dynamics, and appreciation of parents. In addition, STF explores cultural diversity and helps students understand and navigate a multicultural environment. Students learn the safe and responsible use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
Strengthening the Family for Parents
The Strengthening the Family program component stresses the role of parental involvement in their child’s secondary education experience. Families have the opportunity to explore issues such as peer pressure and self-image. Parents have the opportunity to learn and share effective methods of communication with their children. Parents also learn the role that social media plays in their students learning and overall socialization. In addition, parents will learn how to support their students as they pursue college.
