Academic Success Coach for Fall 2021 - NOW HIRING

 

The Academic Success Coach (ASC) will play an integral role in supporting the delivery of academic supports needed for academic and personal success at over 25 different tutoring sites. These supports comprise of tutoring, mentoring, coaching, and ultimately helping EIP students realize their academic potential. The ASC will provide weekly reports directly to the Assistant Director for College Readiness and the Senior Coordinator for Outreach, Engagement, and Student Transition. The ASC will be an in-person and/or virtual position for Fall 2021.

Qualifications: Undergraduate/graduate college students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

Start Date: September 23rd, 2021 - End Date: December 6th, 2021

Position description:

  • Academic Support
    • Provide academic assistance to middle and high school students in all subjects and levels of English, Math, Science, and History
    • Provide strategy on successful study habits needed to attain academic success
    • Facilitate College and Career Readiness curriculum to a small group of students
    • Actively monitor students’ academic progress through monitoring of grades through student groups and one on one sessions
    • Provide classroom and group management to students virtually or in-person
  • Mentoring & Relationship Building
    • Serve as a positive and supportive role model for students
    • Commit to being present and passionate about making a difference in our students’ lives
    • Provide check-ins around students’ academic and personal progress
    • Build and nurture relationships with college bound first-generation students
    • Be able to motivate students and aid in their planning and meeting of personal and academic goals
  • Administrative
    • Submit a weekly report summarizing meetings with academic groups and assigned students, and inform professional staff members of any concerns as it pertains to students' academic performance and/or well being
    • Be early to AMP sessions on a weekly basis
    • Facilitate phone calls to assigned students to provide weekly reminders and request missing forms
    • Provide classroom and group management virtually and/or in person
    • Ability to complete online forms, effectively manage time, and attend assigned virtual training and in-service meetings
      • Mandatory trainings:
        • 9/23 from 4PM-7PM (Virtual)
        • 9/24 from 4PM-7PM (In-Person)
      • Mandatory team huddles:
        • 10/15 from 3:30PM-5:00PM (Virtual)
        • 10/29 from 3:30PM-5:00PM (Virtual)
        • 11/12 from 3:30PM-5:00PM (Virtual)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Own transportation to AMP location sites
  • Undergraduate/graduate college students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50
  • Access to reliable internet network
  • Access to a computer with a working video camera and microphone
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility
  • Willingness to work with and an understanding of middle and high school populations
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple requests
  • Be self-motivated, have strong communication skills and driven to produce results
  • Prior tutoring and mentoring experience
  • Experience working in a virtual environment
  • Be able to work with minors and pass a Mason background check in addition to county/school background checks

STEM Fusion Specialist for 2021-2022 - NOW HIRING

The STEM Fusion Specialist role plays an integral role in the Early Identification Program’s STEM Fusion, an enrichment program designed to strengthen students understanding of scientific and mathematical concepts. STEM Fusion comprises of five sessions that provide an overview of overarching SOL objectives and benchmarks in math and science courses. STEM Fusion also introduces students to the extended branches and concepts around science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM), Health Science, and other career exploration options. The STEM Fusion Specialist will collaborate with their assigned STEM Fusion Teacher to deliver the content for the course and will report directly to the Assistant Director for College Readiness. The STEM Fusion Specialist must be present for the Orientation & Training and all five sessions. The SFS role will be an in-person position for 2021-2022. e a virtual position for Spring 2021.

Duties include:

  • Academic Support
    • Provide academic assistance to middle and high school students in Math, Science, Cybersecurity, Health Sciences and/or other STEM Fusion career fields
    • Provide strategy on successful study habits needed to attain academic success
    • Provide classroom and group management to students
    • Provide individual tutoring services to students in the classroom
    • Serve as a positive and supportive role model
    • Collaborate with teachers for a positive learning environment
  • Administrative
    • Submit an individual academic support report summarizing meetings with academic groups and assigned students, and inform professional staff members of any concerns as it pertains to students' academic performance and/or well being
    • Facilitate phone calls to assigned students to confirm individual academic support and to follow up with students regarding absences
    • Assist with tracking student completion of Risk Forms
    • Track students’ whereabouts during STEM Fusion to ensure students are safe and in designated locations
    • Take student attendance for each session
    • Assist with the following admin work: tracking student completion of Risk Forms, add/remove student usernames to courses, submit homework support report
    • Assist with bus and lunch duty and day of event logistics to ensure student safety during
    • Provide classroom and group management virtually and/or in person
    • Ability to complete online forms, effectively manage time, and attend assigned virtual training and all 5 sessions
      • Mandatory trainings: 10/13 and 10/14
      • Mandatory STEM Fusion sessions: 10/30, 11/20, 2/5, 3/5, & 4/23

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate/graduate college students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50
  • Strong Math and/or Science background

Student Office Assistant - NOW HIRING

EIP Office assistants provide administrative support to EIP staff. They also provide assistance in preparing various program components and serve as the first point of contact with EIP students and families on a daily basis through phone and face-to-face interactions. Office Assistants will be expected to perform the following tasks:

Customer Service

  • Answer telephones promptly
  • Forward telephone calls correctly
  • Have strong spoken and written communication skills

Computer usage and data entry

  • Assist in updating website and social media sites
  • Word processing for correspondence as follow-up with students
  • Assist in design and printing of publications
  • Data entry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse students and families;
  • Comfortable multi-tasking;
  • Able to communicate effectively orally;
  • Availability to work at a minimum of three (3) Saturday and night EIP events;
  • Knowledge of the Spanish language (optional)
