ULife Golf Classic: Corporations Give Back

University Life at George Mason University works in partnership with the corporate community to raise funds for diversity and leadership education initiatives––namely Student Transition

Empowerment Program (STEP) and Early Identification Program (EIP). ULife hosted its annual Diversity Scholarship Golf Classic at the South Riding Golf Club in Virginia. Sandy Spring Bank (the title-sponsor) alongside Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, BMW, Domino’s Pizza and other corporations contributed approximately $30K in donations. Since its inception, the University Life Golf Classic has been the source of more than $100,000 in scholarships.

ULife Golf Classic: Corporations Give Back

Both the Mason and corporate communities show support for the EIP and its students in many ways. Over the past year, two major fundraising events, the 2011 University Life Diversity Scholarship Golf Classic and the 2011 George Mason University Northrop Grumman Diversity Scholarship
Classic, have reaped huge benefits for our students. Because of this support, more than 25 EIP students attending Mason were awarded some form of scholarship. The awards were given to students who have excelled academically and have made contributions to the EIP or the S.T.E.P programs. EIP would like to recognize Sandy Spring Bank and Northrop Grumman for serving as the lead sponsors for the golf classics. We would also like to recognize QinetiQ, CACI, Lockheed Martin, Enterprise Rental, State Farm Insurance, Northrop Grumman Credit Union, Dell Computers, Xerox, Golden Gate, HITT Contracting, Marriott, Cardinal Bank, Brion‟s Grill, Akin, Gump, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P., Robert Baumgartner, Carlson, Hale and Baumgartner, UNISource, Price Modern, Ms. Terry Wang, Mr. Tony Pierce, and Mr. William Washington for their contributions. The University Life Diversity Scholarship Golf Classic was capped off with a warm speech by former NFL player and NFL Hall of Fame nominee Mr. Brian Mitchell. Thank you again to Mr. and Mrs. Green, EIP and University Life staff, the UL Advisory Board, the Development Office, and the many individuals who helped make each event successful.
